The Lake District
"A perfect retreat - I'll be back as Arnie would say!"
Things to do in the Lake District
As a tourist destination, the Lake District packs quite a punch, with such an amazing array of beautiful landscapes, and exciting visitor attractions to suit all tastes and ages.
History, heritage and culture
Annual festivals and events take place across the region throughout the year, adding even more colour and excitement to your Lake District holiday.
Some of the best-known annual Lake District festivals include...
Enjoying the outdoors
There are four main bodies of water in the Lake District where you can enjoy a relaxing boat cruise: in the South Lakes near the Howbeck Guest House there’s Windermere and Coniston Water, while in the North Lakes there’s Derwentwater and Ullswater.
Towns and Villages
Just a mile from the lake shore, the town of Windermere together with its lakeside neighbour, Bowness-on-Windermere, have provided a major tourist destination since Victorian times.
While the lake itself is the main attraction, these linked towns are also home to a number of interesting museums, as well as a fantastic array of tea rooms, boutique shops, pubs and restaurants to keep visitors well-fed and watered.
